Another quarter is heard from on the Arizona immigration bill.
He has the same rights as any other man in California. He is free to marry a woman…or not. This really isn’t that difficult, but I suppose that the lure of drama was just too great. Sometimes, you just want to say to people “Thanks, but I’m not sure you’re helping.”

About on a par with the nitwit, ignorant remarks of Paul McCartney. Makes me relieved that we are no longer under British rule.
By the way, is homosexual marriage legal in Great Britain?
As a queer, “sir” Elton thinks about sex all the time, and the only rights that concern him are queer rights. That is why he says that he has no rights whatsoever in CA.
On the one hand, I suppose that any and all support against illegal immigration should be welcome. On the other hand, support coming from a loud mouth, self-professed queer just does not seem like much support at all. I think I would much rather have support from honest, hard working, quiet Americans who have a stake in this country.
Well I have to say I don’t get the anti-Elton outrage here. For showmanship it is actually a good ploy. I don’t know if he means what he says but he does indeed point out the hypocrisy of artists and others silly boycotts.
From the linked article I see Rage Against the Machine is a band that won’t play AZ. I don’t know if anyone here is aware of them but that is just crazy and the polar opposite of what they should do if they were honest to their songs and name.
Also Ej is said to reside in Atlanta whence stateside…not the pro-ist pro gay state in the Union.
There is no reason for anyone to pay any attention at all to what “artists” say about matters political, social, philosophical, or moral. They need to stick to their “art” and hope that someone thinks it is worthwhile. They are all profoundly ignorant in all other areas of life. It reflects badly on us as a people to think that they have anything at all to say outside of their “art.” It shows just how dumb America has become when we look to these clowns for informed commentary. The whole idea of musicians, movie stars, etc. speaking out on social issues is simply ludicrous. Most of them can barely read and write, let alone think independently.
Now see, this is where we disagree.
If the average artiste cannot have or express an opinion on the various matters of the day, then neither can the average person on mainstreet, and we really do deserve to be ruled by people who have never held a “real job”, and yet consider themselves uniquely qualified to rule over the rest of us.
I don’t believe that, and I hope you don’t either.
“We the people” is just that. Even the dumb ones, and those who are entertainers and imagine themselves pundits also.
The Marketplace of Ideas will work best when all can hawk their wares. The key is making sure that the public knows that there is more than one aisle in the market. If that happens, then maybe they will tire of buying junk and decide to purchase something of lasting value.
Of course I have no objection with telling them “Hey, I didn’t pay $80 to hear you pontificate on politics. I paid to hear you play and sing. Please give me my money’s worth.” either.
BiW, I quite agree that the “artists” should be allowed to have opinions and be allowed to express them. My objection is to the idea that those opinions somehow have some special value, and that is a bogus concept that has been sold to Americans and Americans have foolishly/willingly bought.
Unfortunately, We the People have allowed our educational processes to decay to the point where critical thinking is simply not a part of the system any longer. Thus the vast majority of the people are apt to say, “Oh, he’s a movie star, I should pay attention to what he has to say about who should be President” which is an absolute non sequitur.
You mentioned the need to assure that the public knows that there is more than one aisle in the store. I think most of them know that there are other aisles, but in many cases they have been told that they are all off limits. We have no really effective means of getting past that bias that exists in large segments of the population (why do 95% of blacks vote Dem? why do so many people think that electric cars cause less pollution, forgetting that fuel is still burned to charge them, and there is still a battery disposal pollution problem eventually? etc?).
We have let ourselves get to the point of an ignorant, uninformed populace. This is a very dangerous situation considering that all of these ignorant, uniformed people are still encouraged to vote. The founding fathers had a much better idea.
