Last night, after I got home, I watched the clip of the President Obama using the bully pulpit of the State of the Union Speech to criticize and browbeat the Supreme Court for its ruling last week, and like most people not feverish with partisan frenzy and Keith Olberdrama/Howard Fineman hyperboles and falsehoods screaming in my head about the OUTRAGE!!!11!!1 that the SCOTUS would actually decide that the First Amendment actually means what it says, I was stricken by the brazenness of the action.

Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests – including foreign corporations – to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities.  They should be decided by the American people, and that’s why I’m urging Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to right this wrong.

My initial reaction was one of snark; The “Constitutional Scholar” threatens to again have Congress pass a law that is unconstitutional, so he can show the SCOTUS who is boss.

However, upon reflection, I realize that it was also wrong for other reasons.

To start with, the members of the Court were present as a co-equal branch of government.  Their presence signified a respect for their peers in the other two branches of government, and a respect for the traditions of the Office of the President.  Unlike the opposition party in Congress, they were not afforded time to respond to the uncouth and undignified attack upon their decision, nor would it be in keeping with the nature of the work that they have been appointed to do.  Their role is to apply the law to facts presented and decide what the proper outcome is.  While it would be impossible for them to be with a generic political leaning, there is good reason why they limit their role to the matters presented to them, that being the fact that they are appointed, not elected, for lifetime tenure.  For them to opine into any open microphone on the various matters of the day, whether those matters were before the Court or not, would damage the dignity of the work that they do, and forever damage the sense of integrity that is vital to maintaining the perception of impartiality and the rule of law.  President Obama, as an attorney, is fully aware of this, and still decided to insult his guests in front of the country, knowing full well that their professionalism would prevent them from making anything other than the tamest of responses.  It is the mark of a bully at best, and an extremely immature personality at worst.  But that is not the end.

President Obama is also an honorary member of the Illinois State Bar Association.

As a member, he is subject to the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct.  These rules exist because the practice of law is a profession, and as such has a sacred trust, as recognized in the preamble to these rules:

The practice of law is a public trust. Lawyers are the trustees of the system by which citizens resolve disputes among themselves, punish and deter crime, and determine their relative rights and responsibilities toward each other and their government. Lawyers therefore are responsible for the character, competence and integrity of the persons whom they assist in joining their profession; for assuring access to that system through the availability of competent legal counsel; for maintaining public confidence in the system of justice by acting competently and with loyalty to the best interests of their clients; by working to improve that system to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing society; and by defending the integrity of the judicial system against those who would corrupt, abuse or defraud it.

Why is this important?  Because of IRPC 8.2, which states:

Rule 8.2. Judicial and Legal Officials

(a) A lawyer shall not make a statement the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge, adjudicative officer, public legal officer, or of a candidate for election or appointment to judicial or legal office.  [Emp. Mine]

(b) A lawyer who is a candidate for judicial office shall refrain from conduct which, if the lawyer were a judge, would be a breach of the Code of Judicial Conduct.

These rules do not have a commentary to aid in the interpretation of them, but they happen to mirror the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, which do.  The Commentary states:

[1] Assessments by lawyers are relied on in evaluating the professional or personal fitness of persons being considered for election or appointment to judicial office and to public legal offices, such as attorney general, prosecuting attorney and public defender. Expressing honest and candid opinions on such matters contributes to improving the administration of justice. Conversely, false statements by a lawyer can unfairly undermine public confidence in the administration of justice. [Emp. Mine]

[2] When a lawyer seeks judicial office, the lawyer should be bound by applicable limitations on political activity.

[3] To maintain the fair and independent administration of justice, lawyers are encouraged to continue traditional efforts to defend judges and courts unjustly criticized.[Emp. Mine]

Why does this matter?  Because what the President said was not true, and all he needed to do to know it was read the the Supreme Court Decision, and look up a section of the United States Code for himself, or have a staffer do it.

The Lies:  “Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests – including foreign corporations – to spend without limit in our elections.”

The Truth:  The law at stake was 2 U.S.C. Section 441(b).  I won’t bore you with the details, if you want to know more, I suggest you click on the link and then read the decision.  However, the decision correctly pointed out that another subsection of the applicable chapter already addresses expenditures by foreign nationals in our campaigns.

“We need not reach the question whether the Government has a compelling interest in preventing foreign individuals or associations from influencing our Nation’s political process.  Cf. 2 U.S.C. section 441e (contribution and expenditure ban applied to “foreign national[s]”).”

-Page 46-47 of the decision.

2 U.S.C. section 441e states:

(a) Prohibition It shall be unlawful for – (1) a foreign national, directly or indirectly, to make – (A) a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State, or local election; (B) a contribution or donation to a committee of a political party; or (C) an expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication (within the meaning of section 434(f)(3) of this title); or (2) a person to solicit, accept, or receive a contribution or donation described in subparagraph (A) or (B) of paragraph (1) from a foreign national. (b) “Foreign national” defined As used in this section, the term “foreign national” means – (1) a foreign principal, as such term is defined by section 611(b) of title 22, except that the term “foreign national” shall not include any individual who is a citizen of the United States; or (2) an individual who is not a citizen of the United States or a national of the United States (as defined in section 1101(a)(22) of title 8 ) and who is not lawfully admitted for permanent residence, as defined by section 1101(a)(20) of title 8
The pertinent portion of 22 U.S.C. 661b states;

(b) The term “foreign principal” includes –

(3) a partnership, association, corporation, organization, or other combination of persons organized under the laws of or having its principal place of business in a foreign country.
Clearly stated, the President lied.  The Court did not open any floodgates to allow foreign corporations to spend without limit in our elections.  It in fact acknowledged the existing statutory limits and did nothing to change them with this decision.  And that “century of law” that was supposedly overturned?  The President cannot count.  The Federal Election Commission was formed in 1975 to regulate campaign finance laws.  None of the cases regarding campaign finance law that were discussed in the Majority decision go back any farther than 1970, and the only case that this decision specifically overturns is Austin v. Michigan Chamber of Commerce, which was decided in 1990.
All of this information was available in the decision.  Rather than recklessly saying something that was obviously false to anyone with a copy of the decision and an internet connection and search engine, he could have taken the time to educate himself, or had a member of his staff prepare a briefing that would have apprised him of the facts, and I find it difficult to believe that he didn’t.   Either he knew what he uttered was not true, or he said it with a reckless disregard for the truth.  Either way, he meant to demean the Court and its decision, in a venue and under conditions where casual observers, sadly, might not be aware that the Court does not answer to Congress or the President for the manner in which it discharges its duty.  As such, it constituted an unjust criticism, and in its falsehoods, the President’s Statements clearly were meant to undermine public confidence in the adminstration of justice.  No other conclusion can be reached when a sitting President can say something so clearly untrue, and get the reaction that he did (as members of Congress stood and applauded his partisan rhetoric).  If I wasn’t a practicing lawyer with a modicum of curiosity, it is certainly likely that I would think that the Court made a serious error of law and or protocol, and perhaps out of partisan interests.  For these reasons, the Illinois State Bar should discipline the President for this breach of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
Yeah, I know.  I’m not holding my breath either.
I did some more digging.   Apparently, the Illinois State Bar Association does not issue law licenses in the state of Illinois.  That appears to be the function of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois, or IARDC.  It adopted new rules of professional conduct for 2010, although the only change to RPC 8.2 is that it also adopted the comment that follows the model rule promulgated by the ABA.  According to IARDC records, the President is “voluntarily retired and not authorized to practice law.”, so I would guess that they will remain silent regarding his breach of RPC 8.2 during the SOTU speech.  The Illinois Bar Association could still admonish him, as he is an honorary member, and the ABA, as the self-proclaimed voice of the profession should still demonstrate that it means what it says and issue a public rebuke.

I have to confess, I didn’t bother watching Professor Knownothing’s SOTU speech tonight.  I had two good reasons for not doing so.  The first is avoiding his speeches prevents me from boosting my blood pressure to levels it shouldn’t be at, and the second was that I was at church, learning how to be a better judgmental Christianist who actually believes in an absolute truth other than the only remaining post-modern absolute truth that there is no absolute truth.   Because of the first, I long ago started reading the transcripts instead, although I did watch the clip where the famed “Constitutional Scholar” and noted imbecile had the audacity to sass his intellectual betters on the Court and propose that Congress pass a law reaffirming a principle that the Court just struck down as unconstitutional, presumably so the Court can…strike it down again?  This demonstration of no due respect to the concept of separation of powers reveals yet again a very, very Lilliputian intellect continually trying to clothe itself in the rainment of greatness, only to fail miserably and parade around displaying a naked pettiness and arrogance than ill-becomes any President, including the current occupant of the Oval Office.

Yes, I read the whole thing, and I highlighted the few portions that I felt deserved special rebuttal because I know the speaker knew better when the teleprompter made him utter them.  If you’re a masochist, or you just relish lies, insincerity, and complete and utter tripe wrapped up in one complete package, you can read the whole thing here.

To recover the rest, I have proposed a fee on the biggest banks. I know Wall Street isn’t keen on this idea, but if these firms can afford to hand out big bonuses again, they can afford a modest fee to pay back the taxpayers who rescued them in their time of need.

Never mind the fact that members of my administration forced some of those banks to take the money, against their better judgement, and nevermind the fact that almost all have paid these loans back, with interest.  They remain a sector of the economy that is working, and if we can’t keep them chained down with our “charity”, then we will penalize them for their independence.

As we stabilized the financial system, we also took steps to get our economy growing again, save as many jobs as possible and help Americans who had become unemployed.

And those people in the 99th congressional district of North Dakota, and the other 439 non-existent congressional districts that shared in 6.5 Billion of your tax dollars are very, very grateful indeed for your generous largesse, as are the companies that got the signs advertising all those “shovel-ready” projects made possible by your children’s willingness to become indebted to help save or create all these jobs.  As soon as I can introduce the legislation into Congress, we’ll take all these impertinent tea-baggers into custody and give them shovels to use as they work on those projects.

Let me repeat: we cut taxes. We cut taxes for 95 percent of working families. We cut taxes for small businesses. We cut taxes for first-time homebuyers. We cut taxes for parents trying to care for their children. We cut taxes for 8 million Americans paying for college. As a result, millions of Americans had more to spend on gas, and food and other necessities, all of which helped businesses keep more workers. And we haven’t raised income taxes by a single dime on a single person. Not a single dime.

That’s right.  We made a minor adjustment to payroll withholding so that you could have enough extra in your weekly check to fill the tanks of your Geo Metros, and then allowed the Bush tax cuts to sunset, so that you’ll still have to pay it all back at the end of the year.  Whatta burner on you suckers who let us have your money interest-free so you could take a vacation or buy a big screen tv with your “refund”, huh?  Don’t make any plans for Aruba this year, peasant.

Because of the steps we took, there are about 2 million Americans working right now who would otherwise be unemployed — 200,000 work in construction and clean energy, 300,000 are teachers and other education workers, tens of thousands are cops, firefighters, correctional officers and first responders. And we are on track to add another one-and-a-half-million jobs to this total by the end of the year.

Nevermind the fact that private sector jobs, the ones that actually produce the wealth to pay the taxes, are on the decline, which ultimately means less tax revenue to use to pay the higher than private sector salaries for these government jobs.  You will live to serve your betters in government, and when it becomes apparent that this approach is not sustainable, I will have found a new and better way to blame Bush for this fine mess I keep dragging us deeper into.

Now, the true engine of job creation in this country will always be America’s businesses. But government can create the conditions necessary for businesses to expand and hire more workers.

But I’m not interested in those, because like all elitists who have never worked in the private sector, I am fully possessed by the false belief that small businesses can thrive under a regime of regulation that interferes with the owners’ and entrepreurs’ instincts and judgment, and taxes designed to take the incentive out the risk-taking that drives the growth of small business to begin with.  Geniuses like myself understand that using other people’s property and labor to fund the needs of social justice aren’t just the right of government.  It is government’s duty.  Pay no attention to that silly Constitution.  I’ve told you before that it is a fundamentally flawed document.

We should start where most new jobs do — in small businesses, companies that begin when an entrepreneur takes a chance on a dream or a worker decides it’s time she became her own boss.

Yes, because when we lack that courage ourselves, and have no real comprehension how they really could help the recovery, not by oppressive taxes and regulations, but by actually creating jobs, it is always best to be the perfect parasite; never really killing the host, only taking it to the threshold of death.  But hey, if you actually beat the odds and become successful, then you should be required to pay exorbitant taxes.  Do you think redistributing all this nation’s wealth is easy?   Government will have to hire hundreds of thousands of people to give your money to others, minus the usual handling costs.

Through sheer grit and determination, these companies have weathered the recession and are ready to grow.

Actually, I know that it is despite my naive and dangerous fiscal policy, and all the uncertainty that it brings, that some companies have managed to hang on.  Make no mistake, we will be doing everything we can to make them as dependent on us as the rest of the population, or we will drive the out of business.

One place to start is serious financial reform. Look, I am not interested in punishing banks, I’m interested in protecting our economy.

Oh no.  I am much more interested in controlling them.    But for those that continue to fail to see it our way, yeah, we will lean on them, demonize them, and not stop until protestors are on the lawns of the executives of those uncooperative banks, and they have to come to us for protection.

Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections. Well, I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities.

…unless they are unions, which do their damnedest to prevent our nations corporations from being competitive with the rest of the world, and have elevated scorched earth from a last-ditch effort of desperate powers to a predictable and repeated tactic directly contributing to the downfall of companies that are “too big to fail”, making it necessary for us to steal from your children, and your children’s children, to prop these companies back up so we can give the to the very same powerful interests, the unions, in derrogation of legitimate creditors and bondholders, the ones who formerly took that risk because they foolishly believed that the law was inviolate and protected their interests and investments…right up to the moment we told them to capitulate, or else…

They should be decided by the American people, and that’s why I’m urging Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to right this wrong.

Because, while I’m rumored to be a Constitutional scholar, I already told you that I believe that the document is fundamentally flawed, and the idea that the Supreme Court is the ultimate arbiter of what is and is not constitutional is one of those many flaws.  Let me be clear.  Over two hundred years of jurisprudence is wrong.  We are not a nation of laws, we are a nation of men, ruled by men, and more specifically, me.  And I say that my friends in the unions do not like having competition in the area of political speech by the owners of corporations, so I will personally see to it that any bill Congress sees fit to pass that reaffirms the principle overturned by the Court last week will be upheld, even if I have start appointing more Justices to the Court to do it.  I have a whole bunch of eminently qualified people in my administration to nominate.  Sterling intellects like Harold Koh, and John Holdren, who will help ensure the advancement of whatever progressive principles that we cannot achieve in Congress, thanks to those spineless members who have fallen prey to the false belief that they are actually accountable to the voters, rather than charged with doing what we tell them is best for the citizens.

What’s more fun than watching a propagandist who still can’t help being tethered to certain portions of reality duking it out with a tool of Rhode Island sized proportions who is completely unfettered by anything remotely resembling reality?  I’ll have to get back to you on that.

You heard me. They messed with the family. I want them destroyed.

Seems the boys at Hillbuzz were targeted by the growing loon portion of [Anti]Democratic Party.

They really crossed a line this time, though.  They are no longer just attacking the entity that is “HillBuzz”, but those at the Daily Kos, DemocraticUnderground, Moveon.org and other George Soros, DNC-backed troll mills have ratcheted up their attacks to the personal level.  Unlike Michelle Malkin, Erik Erikson over at Red State, or even people like Nikke Finke at DeadlineHollywood or Harry Knowles at AintItCoolNews, we’ve maintained this site anonymously because we wanted to have personal lives apart from writing original content on the Internets.  99% of you have respected this convention, and have allowed us to just be the “HillBuzz boys”, or other variations on whatever you call us.  That’s allowed us to be both Batman and Bruce Wayne, which means we can still have jobs, go out and have fun, and enjoy life while spending half our time each day working our hearts out for our love of country in service of whatever we can do to defeat Liberals and stop socialism from taking over this nation.

But, the Kossacks and Moveon.organisms have decided to attack us on the personal, not just the site, level.  They are using some of our real names, urging their members to do us personal and physical harm in our real lives, and calling us racists over and over again in the hopes of making us unemployable in the future — because they’ve libeled us by calling us RAAACISTS! on that personal level.

And, you know what, this tactic does have an immediate psychological and financial impact.  This weekend, after these attacks from the Kossacks and Moveon.organism began, we lost two freelance jobs because the nonprofits we were working with felt they can’t be associated with people who are being called racists, since these nonprofits work in the black community and here in Chicago there is a neverending turf war on the Southside, where anything is game when it comes to business or politics.  People who’ve worked with us in the past decided their own jobs would be in jeopardy if they had us on upcoming projects, because if the black community was riled up against these organizations for having people called RAAACISTS! on the team, then their own jobs would be lost.  The way it works is this:  if you have a job in the black community, there is always someone out there who wants that job instead of you, and that person will look for any sort of hook to yank you from that job so they can take it. This RAAACIST garbage is always a favorite hook.

And it is the chief weapon of the Left against just about everyone.

They’ve been using this for decades now.

They use it to scare people into silence.  They force people to drop what they are doing and spend hours defending themselves, trying to prove they’re not what they were accused of.  They demoralize you with the RAAACIST rants, and try to ruin your lives with them.  They cost you work, take food off your table, and threaten your personal safety and well being.

Read the whole thing.  Its long, but they get it.  And they have been marked as a threat for getting it and saying so.

I only have one answer to this.  Anyone who has ever been bullied like this knows what it is.  Bloody their noses.  In full view of everyone.  The socialist wannabes in government are whiny little bitches who have the belief that only they can save the world, and that it is their right and duty to do so.  With your money, and with your freedoms, and if you can’t see that, then you are just stupid.  And of course you shouldn’t be troubled in the slightest by the fact that because of their roles in this grand scheme, they will be made wealthy, powerful, and above all insulated from these “necessary sacrifices” that they will demand of you.  They are, after all, our betters, and if you are too stupid to see the wisdom in their ways, then you aren’t intellectually capable of understanding that all it will gain for them at an enormous cost to you is simply another burden they must endure as they save the world.

I hear the train coming, and their jalopy is stalled on the tracks.  All we have to do is make sure they can’t open the doors until it is too late.

H/t to Eddiebear @ DPUD.

…Representative Alan Grayson(D), of Florida’s 8th Congressional District.

Thanks for that well-reasoned and utterly logical appraisal, Alan.

Now why don’t you put on a blindfold and go play in traffic?

The Republicans and FOX News [Wait!  I thought that Dear Leader and the O Crew had declared that FOX isn’t a news organization?  Uh oh.  I guess someone isn’t getting invited to the next state dinner at the White House.] are not enemies of America, considering that both stand firm against the administration’s UnConstitutional health insurance takeover proposal.  Enemies of this country don’t support the Constitution and the “essential constraints” that the Founding Fathers built in to prevent the government from going all nanny on us and bringing us the CHANGE! of “economic and social justice” that you numbskulls seem determined to force down our throats.

The Republicans and FOX News are not the enemies of health care.  They are opposed to a massive government expansion that can only be brought about through prohibitive costs maintained by a confiscatory tax scheme, and that by its very nature will restrict individual liberties, and restrict freedom of choice in ways that the government simply has no authority to assert.

The Republicans and FOX News are not the enemies of education.  They simply realize that despite the fact that the federal government has over time usurped power over the field of education that rightly belongs to the states and their subject governments, there is no Constitutional authority for the federal government to continually interfere in education and foist a politically correct agenda onto the American Peoples’ children, nor is there any legal justification to supplant the parents’ rightful opinions for their own.

The Republicans and FOX News are not the enemies of peace, and unlike many Democrats who foolishly believe that dialogue and appeasement are successful cornerstones of foreign policy with brutal and determined regimes who seek to obliterate other nations and cultures, they recognize that the only peace that will ever be extended from the hands of such wretched hives of scum and villany will be the peace of the grave.  Looking this stark reality squarely in the eyes has allowed them a clarity and grim resolve to make the tough decisions to engage such threats directly before they become emboldened by indecision and an unwillingness to make hard choices in order to preserve the safety of our people and our allies.  That means accepting and exercising the moral authority to put the men and women of our armed forces in harm’s way, with the sure and terrible knowledge that some will be killed, or forever maimed in body or in spirit.  But in the age of an all volunteer military, it is also done with the knowledge that the men and women who are under orders have put themselves there willingly, and with the full knowledge of the potential outcomes.

These brave people do this not because they have no other options, as Senator and noted idiot John F. Kerry has so condescendingly asserted.  They do this because they love their country and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to help preserve it.  Republicans and FOX News, unlike the Democrats and their enablers and fellow travellers in the old media, can truly appreciate the depth of this committment and sacrifice, consequently, fight wars with the intent of winning them, so as not to sacrifice such courage and dedication in vain.  They do this without specious and whining claims about “messes left by their predecessors”, or taking weeks to make a decision so as to be in line with however the alpha sheep have caused the winds to blow that particular week.  In short, they believe in leadership, not self-aggrandizing speechifying into every open microphone about their troubles.

Alan, put simply, you are a detestable human being and a small man.  I don’t mean short, I mean that the man that you have become will never cast a long shadow, the likes of which have been the historical hallmarks of those who have walked the halls of Washington D.C., and upheld the values set forth in the Constitution, rather than constantly whipping up hatred and envy into a potent and unjustified sense of entitlement among those that your party has made dependent on government over the decades.  Enjoy your fifteen minutes Alan, because as times get tougher due to the fiscally irresponsible programs like the ones you so vigorously support, people will come to recognize that you are like a toddler finger painting with his own feces, and they will pass you by in search of serious leaders instead of self-serving partisan hacks.

Old Lap Dog, Meet New Lap Dog...

Two things caught my attention here as significant…

1.  The bubble-headed bleach blond who says “The White House did just e-mail saying that interaction with Jake Tapper was not heated…”

2.  And the idea that the White House will email MessNBC talking heads during the broadcast, but won’t dial that number to the phone in Glenn Beck’s TV studio to address his many “falsehoods” and “distortions”.

It is shocking that the MessNBC commentators will allow themselves to purposely be used as the mouthpiece for the O Crew and still consider themselves to be a “news organization”, rather than a television station that pushes a certain viewpoint, and even more shocking that Obama, a narcisist’s narcisist will not take advantage of the opportunity Mr. Beck has so graciously given to him and his administration.

My conclusion:  Yes, Virginia, there really are bolsheviks in the West Wing bathrooms, and they are most likely wiping up the aftereffects of their frenzied excitement at having to opportunity to bring their revolution to our country through the tyranny of regulation, because the marketplace of ideas has left them without currency every single time.

I don’t question their patriotism.  They don’t have any.  And the minute that the great (in his own mind) Constitutional Scholar makes serious moves against the constraints on government’s ability to “give” us “social and economic justice” that the Founding Fathers built into the Constitution, it will be time to introduce the Fist-Bumper-In-Chief, his Inner Circle, and the various assorted hangers-on and lou-czars to the dustbin of history.

The way things are going, I’m starting to believe that “Never Again” will have special meaning to our posterity, as well.

Our society took yet another hard knock to the chin this week, although the way that the old media is choosing to report on it, you may not even realize it. I suppose that it could be chalked up to the ‘corsening of our national dialogue’, but seeing as how that phrase frequently tumbles from the lips of the Leftists as they are busy practicing the very same intolerance and hate that they so eagerly accuse others of, I’ll simply call it an unfortunate side effect of our declining morals in this country, an inevitable byproduct of the constant assault on Christianity and the decades-long struggle to push it from its place at the center of our national character by the cynical seeking power, and the perverse who wish to feel better about themselves and are willing to erase any and all notions of a higher authority over the actions of man.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably know that conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was invited, then uninvited this week to participate in a bid to buy the St. Louis Rams football team, and that this bid was derailed not by unsavory information about Limbaugh, but by unsubstantiated accusations by the usual suspects on the left about “racist” comments he supposedly made.   The old media, never ones to refuse participation in good old fashioned character assassination, predictably acted like sharks to chum, and dutifully reported racist remarks that Limbaugh never made, and when called on it, simply shrugged their shoulders and acted as if it was still okay, “because he had said things in the past that were both hateful and racist”.  And that was that.  It was okay to smear the character of a man who’s only crime is saying things that the self-appointed cognoscenti don’t like to hear.  Because that crime is so heinous in the conform-and-think-only-approved-thoughts circles that currently control our culture, it was perfectly acceptable to serve the media created perception that a man is racist and hateful and summarily declare him guilty in the court of public opinion, truth be damned, and when you get caught not doing your job and actually sourcing what you report, you get a pass because you simply know that the victim is the kind of man you declared him to be, even if you cannot prove it.

So what does this have to do with a moral decline?  Well, in the days back when things like the Ten Commandments were still discussed in public fora, like schools, people tended to take things such as “bearing false witness” more seriously.  I’m sure its one of the reasons we have such concepts as perjury, slander, and libel in our law.  And yet, in an age when the President can say he did not have sex with the woman who gave him a hummer in the Oval Office, under oath, and argue about the meaning of “is”, while at the same time, a moral system that teaches that lying is wrong is under attack as “small minded and bigoted”, then it isn’t so hard to see that the concepts that replaced that system in the public lexicon, such as moral relativism and situtational ethics, have contributed significantly to a brave new world where it is ok to malign a man’s character, and bar him from realizing a dream, even if your own lives are messed up and have exhibited the kinds of severe flaws that you decry another for, because unlike the heretic who doesn’t share your vile brand of political opportunism, your sins have been washed clean by your adherence to the belief that all people are equal…unless they don’t believe the same things you do, in which case they are less than a person, and subject to characterizations that would make latter-day propagandists blush.

Of course, there is a downside to this that I haven’t heard too many people talking about yet.  In a country that was once unique for the concept that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, we now have people being targeted with falsehoods being attributed to them, because they do not adhere to the ‘approved beliefs’.  Let that sink in for a minute.  Not only are we seeing the ostracization of an entire class of people for their beliefs, the accusers are so afraid of the power, of the inherent truths in those beliefs, that it simply won’t do to debate those beliefs in a stand up fight.  Now we must be destroyed for our beliefs, and there is no easier way to accomplish this without the handicap of going into a battle of wits unarmed than for the poorly equipped to prevent the fight with vile and specious claims presented as fact.  The  accuser need not trouble themselves with proof.  An outrageous accusation of guilt of one of the new ‘thought crimes’ is more than enough to cause the intended damage.  It is up to the maligned to prove that they aren’t guilty of the offense, and if they can’t, then the accusation remains, to taint their character, and cause them grief throughout the rest of their lives. And the old media is only too happy to pile on.  It’s easy, and when they no longer interest themselves in doing their jobs, then the target is attacked on multiple fronts.

While the old media was busy painting Rush Limbaugh into a white hood and robes, in front of a flaming cross, the people who could have benefitted from his imput, his insight, and of course, his money, were cowed into foregoing their freedom of association in favor of distancing themselves out of fear that the unfounded and unproven accusations against him might taint them.  They empowered, and continue to empower the wrongdoers here.  Yes, I said wrongdoers. Yes, I know that is a moral judgment, and yes, I make it with the full knowledge and confession that I myself am far from perfect.  However, unlike the Wrong Reverend Jackson, I never fathered an illegitmate child, and I have never referred to anyone as a “Hymie“.  I have screwed many things up in my life, and have come to conservatism through a slow political evolution, but unlike the Wrong Reverend Sharptongue, I did not build a career as a race hustler on a fraud dependent on falsely accusing white men of raping a black woman.

So where does this bring us?  A very scary place.  The left is obsessed with race.  It infuses everything they do, and everyone they look at.  In their world, merit no longer has a place.  If they turn their finely tuned perception upon a profession, or career, and they don’t see a rainbow of faces staring back at them, then they are obviously witnessing racism, and their newfound objective of a ‘compelling interest in diversity’ means that they must fill that profession with faces like their own.  Qualifications be damned.  Interest be damned.  Merit be damned.  And in the absence of real moral authority in today’s society, these bigoted race hustlers consider themselves to be the moral authority.  That authority is bound only to one objective:  the advancement of their own race, not for the sake of improvement, but to feed a sense of entitlement that they have falsely spent decades feeding to their own constituencies while at the same time making these same people total dependent upon them, and whatever entitlements they could provide.  Such a cynical pursuit of power, gained largely by ethically and morally handicapping the very people that they purport to help has been not only corrosive to those constituencies, but to society as a whole.

None of this would have been possible without a concerted decision of the old media to enable and assist these cynical pursuits.  By passionate portrayal of these self-interested and opportunistic crusaders, rather than deep scrutiny of the effects and goals of the social justice that they continue to pay lip service to, they have accorded these charlatans more gravitas than they could have ever earned on their own.  But in order to permanently elevate these scoundrels, it was also necessary to attack the old order, to create a sense of guilt where none was necessary, and to repeat the lies about “white priviledge” and “the sins of America” while studiously avoiding any mention of the voluntary steps made by this nation to address such issues.  The result was inevitable:  a world where the ends justify their means, and anything goes. Lies and innuendo are perfectly okay.  Destruction of your opponent’s character is okay.  Accusations without ever presenting proof are okay.  This is the world we now live in, and if you think its ugly now, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

[Originally posted Oct. 11, 2009 at The Hostages, but it had words n’ stuff instead of funny pictures, or a stupid video, so I thought I’d give it a go here.]

ObambiFlag Greetings, My Fellow Americans, It has almost been a year since I preyed upon the stupid and gullible, and the Democratic Party faithful (but I repeat myself), and used my race, and the unreasoning groundswell of support that I got from “my own people”, along with the white guilt felt by many boomers, who helped program it into their children, and leapfrogged into an office that I simply am not worthy to have, in charge of a country I completely despise, so that I could continue to campaign for the office of “World President”.

In the interim, I, and my appointees have done much to make the previously unthinkable possible. Whether appointing a tax cheat to be the Secretary of the Treasury, or nominating czars who are self-professed communists, radicals, and internationalists, I have done much to create conditions that really will make it so you can never go back to your lives as they were, before my ascendancy to office. I’d like to say a special thank you at this time to the newspapers and all of the networks other than FOX. Really, I could not have accomplished so much without your assistance. Your empty fawning over me, your refusal to look in to the parts of my past that I refused to make public, the lack of scrutiny of my crazy friends and associates, and the zombie-like support for a candidate with such a tiny resume’. Truly, you looked past every single reason your once-finely honed journalistic instincts would see as a waiving red flag, and instead helped an entire nation of thumb-suckers pour all their hopes for change into the empty vessel that is me. I couldn’t have asked for better collaboration than what you have freely given, and it has been valuable beyond measure.

It even made it worth it to me to let that crazy honkey Chris Matthews hump my leg at every opportunity. And the time will come again soon, as we march on the road of fundamentally changing this country, when I will need even more help from you. On that day, I will need your resources and unquestioning allegiance. It shouldn’t be too difficult for you, as so many of you whored out your journalistic integrity and independence a long time ago. Many of you may not even notice the switch to being state-run media, but since it will also come with the government’s financial support, it should be of no consequence to most of you, except those impertinent holdouts at FOX and those reality-challenged bloggers who keep spreading those falsehoods about me. And they will soon be inundated with the tide of democracy that the FCC will impose upon them all. They will acknowledge the newspeak truth, or the forces of our own new history will sweep them away, like they will sweep away all the vestiges of that failed system of capitalism, and the outdated notions of belief in old gods, and personal responsibility.

Make no mistake, I will do my best to damage every long-held belief that I cannot destroy; forging a new nation that where the only things you believe are worth having are those that I, your new god and savior, let you have through the government that is the instrument of my power and will be the touchstone of your complete and utter dependency. I have given you a Stimulus that has stimulated nothing but the purses of those interests friendly to me and hostile to this country, and still you praise me, and look to me with longing for the “Hope and Change”. How much more will you praise me when I give you environmental legislation that will necessarily make your utility bills skyrocket, and drive industry offshore, as it does nothing for the environment? How great will the chorus of your lemming like voices be when I give you health insurance reform that will cause thousands of doctors to quit, rationing care, and necessarily bankrupting this once-great nation to provide this newfound ‘right’ to the masses? Loud enough to sing me to ascension as the leader of the entire world, I think, for I am the Hope of Changing this country. I am the embodiment of the hope that America can be dragged away from its past, from its core beliefs, from everything that made it a leader and a force to be reckoned with, so that those who would shackle humanity to their own ambitions can do so, free of the fear of a nation that has three times stood as a bulwark against the designs of the immoral, the decayed, the craven, and the opportunistic, and given hope to those wretched masses cowering in the shadow of their jackboots, poised to come down and crush the unwilling underneath their boots. And I did it all with the willing assistance of a once-proud people. TRINIDAD-AMERICAS-SUMMIT-CHAVEZ-OBAMA I am a conundrum; I am the man who promises everything in exchange for all you have. I am a cypher; a man with no past, who used an empty catchphrase that allowed millions to project the worst of their lazy aspirations on to me, and believe them noble and good. I made it not only fashionable to covet what your neighbor has earned, I made it a political imperative, and the gateway through which you will gladly accept ideas that were once anathema to you. This is how I will be able to fix that imperfect document called the Constitution, and destroy the freedoms it has provided by making it an instrument of social justice, at least as much justice as we see fit to allow you to have. Thank you. It has been a long year, and one marked with setbacks that I did not expect and had trouble adjusting to. Many of you still possess the idea that this is your country, and that you get to decide what will eventually happen in it.

Let me be clear: Your resistance has been noted. Your fellow citizens overwhelmingly supported the call to identify those among you with such arcane and ancient notions. Flag@whitehouse.gov has collected far more than a clandestine domestic surveillance ever could. In the coming months, we will do all in our power to limit the exercise of the Second Amendment, and we will continue with our de facto confiscation of radio stations. We will impose net neutrality rules, and will silence the opposition on the internet, and we will do it in a way that will leave the masses convinced that it was the right thing to do for the good of us all.

Take heart, America. One day, you will be able to look back to this time, and you will be able to see that this was the minute when you were freed from the burden of making your own choices. This was the moment when the government took away the sting of consequences for bad choices, thus redefining them to be simply acts in opposition to progress for progress’s sake. We stand at a bold precipice today. Government will no longer be restrained by notions of limitations on its rights, or the silly belief that it serves you. A new dawn is coming, and I will audaciously stand for this change that America has needed since its birth so long ago. With your continued help and support, I will take us there.

Even for Teh Won’s administration, this week took a step up in surrealism that I find difficult to properly grasp.

The Most Ethical Congress EVAR! led by the world’s leading poster child for prevention of serial botox overdosing saw fit to pass its version of hate crimes legislation, which deliberately covers the pink swastika brigades.  It will be a signficant leap forward in their continuing assault on Christianity, and their resistance to the judgment against their lifestyle that in necessarily dictates.  This will, of course, lead to a consitutional showdown between an established freedom of religion vs. a newly created right to be whatever you want, completely free of the restraints of objective reason and logic that marked other Supreme Court ‘Right to Marry’ cases.  It might be interesting, if it weren’t for the fact that there are already too many sitting Justices on the Court who are not only willing, but seem to think it is their duty to look beyond the Constitution to not only interpret the law, but to make it up out of whole cloth. Now, I simply look at another case where there are at least four people who refuse to confine themselves to their actual duties, and as a result, we are always one vote away from EPIC FAIL! in important rulings such as the one this law will bring about if it passes both houses and goes to the desk of the Great Prevaricator for signature.

Meanwhile, Health Insurance Takeover Reform still continues to take shape, with many Democrats now speaking openly about actually owning the crap sandwich on their own, without ‘bipartisan support’, and actually providing a public option, which as any fool who has paid any attention to the goings on at all knows was the goal all along; bring socialist healthcare to the masses and watch the twin totems of Liberty and Freedom start to wither and sag under the crushing weight of a prohibitively expensive mediocrity, calculated to keep the peasants quarrelling among themselves for increasingly scarce resources rather than keeping their newly empowered ‘ruling class’ accountable.  And nary a serious query from any conservative member of Congress about the Constitutionality of this grandiose vision.

Another quarter heard from brought us John Boener claiming that the Dems had made significant amendments for portions of bills already voted on.  If true, it is a completely unacceptable state of affairs, at least for a people who wish to remain free.  Yet the silence from the old media, the former guardians of the republic, is so loud that it threatens to break all the windows.

And then, Friday morning, when I was already running late, I got in the car and heard Glenn Beck and Co. goofing on one skit after another, awarding him prize after prize.  Then he cut to Captain Awesome (thank you for that one, Rosetta the Daddy) giving a speech about his surprise at winning the Nobel Peace Prize.  I thought it was a brilliant edit job….until I changed the station at the commercial and learned that it was true:  The Naked Emperor had actually won the Nobel Peace Prize…11 days into his Presidency.

In this world, where people actively are choosing evil over good, feelings over logic, and double-standards over reason, too many see nothing wrong with this state of affairs.  They shrug their shoulders as if to say “So what?  Everything is great!”  My boss came in Friday morning, and said a woman came into the doctor’s office that morning, bubbling with excitement about this latest development.  She was practically beside herself at the thought that a man of no accomplishment won the prize, and no question could draw an explanation out of her.

And now this morning, I read that some of my fellow Hostages, Detainees, and Captives are being dropped as friends, or are dropping friends on Facebook because they have retained their faculties and refuse to worship at the altar of Barry the Blessed™.  I don’t like where this is starting to go, but the apparent inevitability of it is truly frightening.  With knowledge comes sorrow.  I’m starting to wish I could drink the Kool-Aid.  It would be much more fun to join the herd and believe that this was in everyone’s future:
