As I enjoy this 4th of July and the terrific films TCM is showing today, I was thinking of the people who would make a better President then the current Duffer-In-Chief. While this would be obvious to anyone paying attention, I realized that there are still some people who need help with these kind of comparisons.
5. Mr. Rogers had the courtesy to tell us when he was taking us on a trip to the land of make-believe; Mr. Obama speaks of “Hope” and “Change” as if he were acquainted with both, and that he actually knows where they may be found.
4. Mr. Rogers invited us to ride a trolley with him; Mr. Obama would force us to ride light rail by choking off as much domestic oil production and refining as possible.
3. Mr. Rogers wanted to help us become better people with gentle instruction on manners and morals; Mr. Obama actively fostered jealousy and its idiot cousin, envy in the nation he presumes to lead.
2. Mr. Rogers understood that goodness begins with ourselves; Mr. Obama believes that charity starts with government.
1. Mr. Rogers wanted to be our neighbor; Mr. Obama wants to organize our communities and pit them against one another.
The end result? With Obama, it is not a
“Beautiful day in the neighborhood.” And I emphatically do not want to be his neighbor. As for Mr. Rodgers, heck Fred would always be welcome, there would always be a burger on the grill for him and a beer (or lemonade) at the ready. The man was a class act.
♫ It’s a beautiful day in this gangsta hood, ♫
A beautiful day for your savior,
You will be mine!
Send me your dime!
It another campaign day in Hollywood
As you marvel at my beauty,
You will be mine!
Send me your dime!
I have always wanted to remake America too,
My demands are that I rule over you.
So let’s hear no argument on what you will pay
Since I’m your President, you will do as I say
You will be mine!
Send me your dime!
♫ Mail your wedding gifts as a favor…♫
Do as I please,
Bend at your knees,
Remember that I’m your savior!
Tex, the beat is rather incessant, and I REFUSE to dance to it!
No need for dancing, Gus. All you have to do is bend the knee and spin like a top with your tinfoil hat rolled tight. Afterwards, we’ll all have a beer summit and drink Colt 45.
You’re right. Fred Rogers was a nice man and class act. Two qualities Barack Hussein “Barry” Obama completely void of. 😉
I appreciate your effort on this one but stick to your day job. 😉
What day job? 😛 Beats the hell out of watering plants.
Personally, I’m a little miffed that BIC would pick a class act like Fred Rogers to make comparison. I think BIC would have been far more tactful to pick a more apt comparison of a better man than Obama.
Say Pee Wee Herman or Private Bradley Manning.
Here’s the stark reality for you boys. A kind and gentle peace-maker like Fred Rogers would have gotten his head blown off before his first term was over. History proves it … Lincoln, Gandhi, King, etc.
Fred’s kind will not be seen again and one of the reasons why is that he is the LAST person who would ever have gotten into politics or exploited his position as a trusted “friend” of millions of children.
After watching a bunch of movies on TCM, I can see why BiW’s mind turned toward this fantasy, I hope he enjoyed it while it lasted.
Happy 4th to all.
No, no. You got Fred read all wrong, Rutherford. Fred was a scumbag in your book – a crazed loon; a psychopath; a believer in Arks and stuff like that.
You got to hate Fred if you’re going to be consistent, Rutherford. Fred was first and foremost a Presbyterian minister – the worst humanity has to offer.
Allahu Akbar, Rutherford! 😉
Tex, there are a good number of folks for whom religion is a very good thing. Fred’s religious background would actually attract me to the church not repel me from it. I wonder what his sermons were like? I doubt there was much talk of going to hell.
Actually as an adult, I’ve more than once welled up while watching a rerun of the Neighborhood. Seldom on TV or in real life can someone be found who is so comforting and accepting.
“You are the only one like you, like you my friend, I like you.”
It doesn’t get much better than that.
Actually, Fred was very capable. I read a biography a few years back written by a friend he made late in his life.
And Rutherford, you would be making a mistake to presume that someone who always went out of his way to be a gentleman didn’t have the stones to do what the job requires.
An error to add to the litany you continually make.
Who said anything about lack of stones? I said the man believed in peaceful resolution of conflict based on the way he presented himself on TV for some 30 years. Such peace makers have a very bad habit of getting killed in this world.
😆 To infinity and beyond!
I don’t Rutherford would make a terribly good source of determining exactly what it is that Presbyterian pastors might preach about.
But then, what do you expect when your personal mentors are name Olbermann and Maher? 😀
Good post, though somewhat fantastic.
I used to think he was such a wimp until I grew up and realized how strong a person he actually was. A no compromise and truly gentle man with a huge heart. Often we forge our heroes based on their physical prowess or appearance, when we should weigh their heart. That is one reason Dr Paul is often overlooked. He’s actually not too dissimilar to Fred. A tribute…
It’s a great video Poolman.
See I break my rule on looking at embeds and what do I get? What a disgrace to Freds memory.
Ron Paul is the crazy uncle you wave to at the pool party but don’t go talk to. That is the take of many of his fellow congressman who avoid him as he sits at his spot looking to engage cosponsors etc. kind of sad.
Rutherford I disagree with your assessments on display here. First of all Mr.Rogers wasn’t afraid of entering the fray of politics. In fact PBS itself is quite giddy about his 1969 (?) visit before Sen. Pastore (D- RI)
As for the peacemakers being incapable of finding a place in politics. I dare say you have a different take on why the folks you mentioned got whacked, psstt it was there peace stuff.
Wow Alfie you’re confusing me on this one. Are you referring to the video mashup posted by Poolman? I’ve seen it before Poolman ever posted it and I always thought it was very sweet. It also appears to have the blessing of PBS themselves;. How in the world was this a disgrace to Fred’s memory?
I guess I just hate mash ups too much
An interesting environment for delivering a message
Asking an audience full of superficiality to think about something deep was indeed a bold move by Mr. Rogers. Bravo to him.
I offered it on the grounds that most folks that analyze it see where Rogers was overtly religious. I thought it was a good hit to you seeing as the position you hold. Perhaps you’re not so much a pagan atheist but just the type of guy that gets the message but just hates any number of messengers
I’d have a hard time sympathizing with anyone who could throw out Fred’s message simply because he closed with “May God be with you”. The man’s a pastor for goodness sake.
The message — no one gets here on their own — we all have someone who has loved us and encouraged us — is incredibly profound. My only sadness was that the audience was not worthy of the message. Still a teacher, and that is what Fred was to some extent, tries to teach everyone regardless of how likely they may be to actually learn.
I’m not that much of a online reader to be honest but your sites really nice, keep it up!
I’ll go ahead and bookmark your site to come back down the road.
Alll the best
